Bbeyond

Bbeyond Time 20th Anniversary of Bbeyond 2001-2021

Bbeyond came into being early in 2001, as a result of individual artists’ interest in the Performance Art genre and discussions at Catalyst Arts in 1998.

The initial committee included Brian Patterson, Malgosia Butterwick, Alastair MacLennan, Peter Richards, Brian Kennedy, Rainer Pagel, and Brian Connolly. Bbeyond is committed to promoting the practice of performance art and artists in Northern Ireland and further afield. Their aim is to raise people’s consciousness of live/performance art as being integral to the world in and around us, inspiring reflection and enriching lived experience. They regularly host artists of international reputation and encourage newer artists to engage in performance art practice. Bbeyond fosters greater access to and appreciation of this art form, through facilitating performance in public places, allowing everyone, to encounter, experience and enjoy performance art directly.

Bbeyond Time

2oth Anniversary of Bbeyond 2001-2021

Bbeyond Time is a celebration of performance art marking the 20th anniversary of Bbeyond’s contributions in promoting the process of performance art and artists, locally, internationally and beyond.

Not only does 2021 mark the centenary of the border on the island of Ireland it also is internationally acclaimed performance artist Joseph Beuys’ centenary and also the 20th anniversary of Bbeyond. During the Portrait of Northern Ireland exhibition, the collective will be considering the affects and effects of performance art in Northern Ireland over the past 20 years.

Bbeyond Time reflects on past projects and looks towards potential futures for how performance art can be made even more accessible.

“To make people free is the aim of art, therefore art for me is the science of freedom”

Joseph Beuys
