Kwok Tsui was born in China in 1989, moving to Northern Ireland in 2005 where he now resides in Belfast working as an artist. He graduated with First Class Honours in Fine Art from Ulster University, Belfast School of Art. Since graduating Kwok Tsui has been exhibited throughout Northern Ireland.

His practice is mainly focused on painting, in recent work he takes an interest in the familiarity of memories both within himself and the populace at large.

Memory is always at ‘play’ in his practice – a semi-lucid abstract quality, re-imagining thoughts and attempting to articulate emotions from his own memory. It questions his identity and the idea of ‘belonging’ and ‘home’ in painting – both within himself and his work. A sense of displacement, flux and detachment whilst acknowledging the limitations of what ‘paint’ can achieve in this space. A sense of place is often suggested in his work, yet the geographic location is unknown. In the process of making his intuitiveness and the immediate concern takes over. In that sense he is no longer able to dictate the image, or the memory.
